Beirut is the long-running musical project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon, known for blending indie folk, orchestral pop, and global influences into a distinctive and richly textured sound. Since his acclaimed 2006 debut “Gulag Orkestar”, Condon has continually evolved his musical language, balancing nostalgia, wanderlust, and introspection.

His latest album “A Study of Losses” (2025) is an 18-track work commissioned by Swedish troupe Kompani Giraff and inspired by Judith Schalansky’s “An Inventory of Losses”. Exploring disappearance, preservation, and the fragile beauty of memory, the album combines choral arrangements, ambient textures, and early-music influences. Following “Hadsel” (2023), recorded on a remote Norwegian island, it further expands Beirut’s sonic landscape, reflecting on vanished places, forgotten histories, and what remains in their wake.

Across nearly two decades, Condon has developed a musical identity that continually moves between tradition and reinvention, drawing inspiration from places, cultures, and the passage of time. The result is a singular body of work defined by evocative melodies, intricate arrangements, and a timeless sense of melancholy.
