City Of The Sun may live in Brooklyn, New York, but their genre-defying music drifts across borders, weaving together influences from indie rock, Latin folk, blues, and world music. Formed by guitarist John Pita and joined by drummer Zach Para, bassist Matt Fasano, and guitarist Marco Bolfelli, the band creates music that feels both intimate and cinematic. Since their debut in 2016, followed by their self-titled album in 2020 and “Segunda Alma” in 2022, City Of The Sun have built a devoted global following, earning sold-out crowds from London to Athens and beyond.
Their new album, “Under the Moon”, marks a return and a step into new light. Produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Built to Spill), the record moves through a range of moods and landscapes, from the rolling surf of “Angeles” and the spaghetti-western atmosphere of “Bajo la Luna” to the desert rock pulse of “Ciudad del Sol” and the Mediterranean sway of “Hotel Alma”. Songs such as “Un Disparo al Corazon” and “Twenty Twenty One” reflect on grief and loss, while tracks like “Ella” and “Dream” introduce a joyful disco-funk energy new to the band’s sound.
The collaborative “Vuela” featuring Gizmo Varillas, ventures even further into new territory, blending Latin and African rhythms with a timeless spirit. Closing track “Metamorphosis” leaves listeners with a sense of departure and transformation. More than instrumental music, City Of The Suns work forms a language of its own – one shaped by the bands diverse roots and shared journey, and one that audiences around the world instinctively understand.
