With “ZIRP!”, DIIV embrace what they call “The New Alternative”, blending their shoegaze and grunge roots with irresistible pop melodies. Produced by A. G. Cook (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek), the band’s fifth album pushes their sound into bold new territory, pairing sparkling hooks and expansive guitars with sharp commentary on technology, capitalism and modern society.
From the infectious lead single “The Fountain” to the dreamy pop-rock of “Trillions”, DIIV balance dystopian themes with bright, accessible songwriting. “ZIRP!” captures the band at their most ambitious and melodic yet, redefining their sound without losing the underground spirit that has always set them apart.
Across the album, intricate guitar work and driving live drums meet unexpected pop sensibilities, creating a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly unpredictable. With “ZIRP!”, DIIV prove that underground credibility and mainstream ambition don't have to be mutually exclusive.
