KARL is a storyteller from Vienna, balancing somewhere between neighbourhood pubs, the stage and pure instinct. His songs blend the wit and charm of Vienna with indie guitars and the emotional depth of the so called „Austropop“. The 26-year-old writes about long nights, fleeting encounters and the small moments that leave a lasting impact – carried by his unmistakably raw voice and a genuine desire to bring people together through music.
The best stories are often found where life actually happens: in late-night conversations, everyday chaos, heartbreak, hangovers and moments of pure joy. That's exactly where KARL finds his songs. Rather than romanticising life or searching for perfect answers, his music embraces life's rough edges. As KARL puts it: "Keep Ahead of the Rough Life." It's more than a slogan – it's his mindset.
Behind the project is an artist with Austrian and Mozambican roots. Born in Mozambique and raised in Vienna, KARL draws on both cultures to shape his perspective and his music. His stage name pays tribute to his father and reflects the stories he tells: stories of everyday life, human connection and the people you meet along the way. For KARL, genre has never been the point – emotion has.
Music has been part of his life from an early age. He started playing piano at the age of five, gained his first stage experience as a child and eventually began producing his own songs. Through rap and hip hop, he discovered his artistic identity and has spent the last few years developing the project that became KARL. His 2025 single "Letzte Nacht" ("Last Night") brought together the elements that define his sound today: personal storytelling, Viennese authenticity and the constant interplay between melancholy and euphoria.
His songs move between nights that never seem to end and the quiet reflection of the following morning, between lightness and depth. They don't just tell stories about human connection – they create it. His live shows are places where strangers sing, dance and, for one evening, feel a little less like strangers. With a distinctly Viennese voice, an international background and a remarkable eye for life's small moments, KARL turns everyday experiences into songs that resonate far beyond the city he calls home.
