On 30.06.2025, the Open Air Arena Vienna will be the place to be.
The The celebrate their comeback in Austria and play their first show in 25 years in Austria!
The The emerged in the post-punk landscape, in an era of self-taught musicians and DIY experimentation. Matt Johnson combined his love of film music and musique concrète with his love of traditional songwriters such as John Lennon, Hank Williams and Robert Johnson. His big breakthrough came in 1983 with the album “Soul Mining”, which brilliantly portrayed the emotional situation of the then 21-year-old.
Although Johnson is the only permanent member, the group has evolved into a multimedia formation consisting not only of musicians, but also filmmakers, photographers, visual artists, poets, sculptors and architects. The genre of The The is a genre of its own that cannot be easily pigeonholed. It is the music of long shadows, high hopes, channeled rage, feverish passions and sweetly disturbing emotion. It is pop and rock, blues and folk, soul and polemic. It ranges from alienated electronics to twisted cinematic soundtracks, from guitar-heavy swing to scarlet ballads, from tirades and prayers to diaries and hymns. The album, which was released in September 2024, is entitled “Ensoulment” – and there will also be plenty of insights into the soul on June 30, 2025: Because that's when The The will be playing in the Open Air Arena Vienna!
